Confidential: The Stuff That Executive Assistants Know... and Keep

Providing personal assistance and administrative support to CEOs, Presidents and Vice Presidents are only a part of what we do. It also comes with the job, that we are privy to sensitive information, and sometimes even be the first to know about it. Err.... whether we like it or not. To see things that the rest of the company does not or are not allowed to see. To know things that we don't care to know about... (Spare us!) As Executive Assistants, we are gatekeepers of these secrets.

Your view up there, sitting beside the top honchos - is total. You might think it's cool, sometimes it is, often it's not. It can be a burden. There are some facts that we're better off not knowing, so we can keep our illusions and go on with our happy life. It's okay if the view is always roses and butterflies - but sometimes, it can be dead bodies being buried. (Only a metaphor, dearies)

When Do You Know It's Time To Go?

It's been a while since I've posted on our blog, and I do apologize for that. No, I haven't run out of things to share about our job, but I did do a crazy little thing - I resigned. It's one of those crossroads.

Yes, I left a high paying job with one of the top companies in the Philippines so I can devote my full time to my writing and freelancing career. Some people might say it was a poorly timed decision. We were in the middle of paying for a house and car loan. The house was turned over to us just this month and there are so many things that needs to be done to improve it. It's our dream house. So yeah, you can say that it's very poor timing, to leave a high paying job at this point in time. One can look at it that way, and sometimes I worry about it too.

Are You Getting The Job Done The Right Way?

Are you "getting things done" the right way?

People have different methods of completing a task. When we're able to get it off our checklist and produce results, we pat ourselves on the back and say, Well Done! Err... are you sure? Completing a task and doing it efficiently are 2 very different things.

Here's what happens when you don't get things done RIGHT.

How to Establish Authority (Even Though You Have None)

The authority of assistants are often questioned. How can you establish authority when you have none?

What is Authority anyway?
  1. The power to enforce laws, exact obedience, command, determine, or judge. One that is invested with this power.
  2. An accepted source of expert information or advice: Power to influence or persuade resulting from knowledge or experience
Those are my definitions of authority.  They are different, but they are linked together. For me, you can be in a position of authority but not have authority... or you may not have authority but be an authority.

Find Your Passion This 2015!

It's another year. A clean slate. After all the fun and cheer of the holiday season, we can now sit and ask ourselves... what's next? What do I want to do differently this year?

The last 2 years have proven to be the most challenging year of my life. All 3 of my anchors were dislodged. My mom passed away, my husband was diagnosed with Diabetes (which is what my mom died from) and my boss of 6 years went back home and our company got acquired. As if these wasn't enough to shake a poor girl's reality, I started losing hair. What else can go wrong? All anchors up and my ship is drifting away from shore.
